Family Sessions at Louise Pollitt Photography
As a mother of two, you will often find me, wellies on getting some fresh air with the kids.
As we all know, children grow up too fast! I love to share these moments with parents and help to create albums that can be looked back at for years to come.
Mums - get in on these photos, I know only too well that there are never any photos of us!

About your Family Session
Your Family Photographer in Leeds, Huddersfield and Halifax
Your family session should be relaxed, calm , and about capturing the essence of your families personality. That’s why I offer two different sessions - One set in my studio, and one out at a location of your choice - but which one is best for you?

In Studio sessions
Set in the studio, close to Leeds, Halifax and Huddersfield, we will be taking posed photographs of your family. The session will last between 1-2 hours, during which time I will guide you and your family through a variety of poses and groupings.
We will start by taking some photographs of the family together, capturing your unique dynamic and the love that you share. I will also take individual shots of each family member to create a complete and beautiful family portrait.
I have a variety of backgrounds and props that we can use to add some variety to the photographs and make them more interesting. You can also bring any personal items or heirlooms that you would like to incorporate into the shoot.
About two weeks after the session, you will have the opportunity to view the photographs at your viewing when your gallery is ready.

On Location Sessions
During this session, we will be taking candid and natural photographs of you and your family in an outdoor setting. The session will typically last between 1-2 hours and will take place at a location of your choice or one that we recommend based on the lighting and scenery that will be available on the day of the session.
We will start by discussing your preferences and what kind of photographs you would like to capture. I will then work with you and your family to create a relaxed and natural atmosphere, allowing you to be yourselves while I capture candid moments and special memories. We can take photographs of the entire family together, as well as individual and smaller group shots.
The beauty of outdoor photography is that we have an unlimited variety of backgrounds and settings to choose from, whether it be a park, beach, city or countryside, the possibilities are endless. The natural light and surroundings will add an extra layer of magic to your photographs.

Family Session FAQs
When is the best time to book a family session?
Family sessions can be booked at any time of year, but I recommend booking 2–3 months in advance, especially for spring, summer, and autumn dates, as these tend to fill up quickly.
Where will our session take place?
Family sessions are usually held at a beautiful outdoor location with plenty of natural light, such as a woodland, beach, park, or open field. If you prefer a more relaxed feel, lifestyle sessions can also take place in your home. Sessions can also be held in studio.
What time of day is best?
Outdoor sessions are typically scheduled during golden hour—the hour before sunset—when the light is soft, warm, and flattering. For young children with earlier bedtimes, we'll find a time that works best for your family while making the most of the available light. We can also capture in the mornings if that works easier for you!
How long does a family session last?
Most family sessions last 60–90 minutes. This gives us plenty of time for a relaxed mix of posed and natural moments without feeling rushed.
What should we wear?
Neutral, earthy, and soft colours photograph beautifully and create a timeless look. Try to coordinate rather than match exactly, and avoid large logos, bright neon colours, or busy patterns. Once you're booked, I'll send you a styling guide with helpful tips and inspiration.
Can grandparents join the session?
Absolutely! Extended family sessions are a wonderful way to capture multiple generations together. If you're planning to include grandparents or several family groups, please let me know when booking so I can allow enough time.
What if my children don't sit still?
That's completely normal—and expected! My sessions are relaxed and child-led. We'll play games, explore, cuddle, laugh, and let your children be themselves. The most meaningful photographs often come from genuine interactions rather than perfectly posed smiles.
What should we bring?
Bring drinks, a few small snacks for little ones, wipes, and anything your children might need to stay comfortable. A favourite blanket or comfort toy can also be lovely to include in a few photographs.
What if the weather is bad?
If we're planning an outdoor session and the weather isn't suitable, we'll simply reschedule to the next available date at no extra cost.
Can we bring our dog?
Of course! Dogs are part of the family too. You're very welcome to include your furry friend—just let me know in advance so we can choose a suitable location.
Can we choose the location?
Yes! If you have a favourite place that holds special memories, I'd love to hear about it. I'm also happy to recommend beautiful locations that photograph wonderfully throughout the year.
What if my child is shy?
There's no pressure for children to smile or perform. I take time to build trust, keep things fun, and allow everyone to settle naturally. Every child is different, and I work at their pace to capture genuine expressions and connections.
How many images will we receive?
The number of images depends on the collection you've chosen. You'll receive full details before booking, and additional images may be available to purchase.
How long will it take to receive our gallery?
Your fully edited gallery will usually be ready within 2–3 weeks after your session. We will book you in for your viewing session where you can choose your package.
Do you retouch the images?
Yes. Every image is carefully edited to enhance colour, light, and tone, along with gentle, natural retouching where needed. My aim is to create timeless photographs that still feel authentic.
What should we expect during the session?
Expect a relaxed, fun experience with plenty of movement, cuddles, laughter, and genuine connection. I'll guide you when needed, but the focus is on capturing your family naturally rather than stiff, formal poses.
What if someone is unwell?
If a member of your family is unwell, please get in touch as soon as possible. We'll happily reschedule your session so everyone can enjoy the experience and look their best.
How do I book?
Simply get in touch through my contact form or send me a message. A signed contract and booking fee are required to secure your session date.
